But for the first time in those six games, the Caps absorbed a regulation loss, falling 3-2 to the Bolts. The setback was Washington’s first in regulation time on home ice since Dec. 28. Alan Cumming Says Spider-Man Musical Is 'Like A Lover
Who Dumped You'

By Rick Marshall at MTV's Splash Page

The troubled history of Julie Taymor's "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" musical took another hit this week with the news that Evan Rachel Wood, the production's Mary Jane Watson, had exited stage right after the premiere was pushed back. Currently scheduled for a Fall 2010 premiere, the massive production's future remains somewhat uncertain, despite assurances from many involved (including U2 bandmates Bono and The Edge) that Spider-Man will eventually swing into theaters.

Even the show's Green Goblin, Alan Cumming, seemed uncertain when we caught up with him on the red carpet at the recent Independent Spirit Awards....

Brooks Laich on Caps clinching playoff spot: 'We have bigger goals'
By Mark Giannotto at Capitals Insider

It was business as usual in the Caps' locker room here at KCI following today's morning skate, despite the fact that the team became the first in the NHL to clinch a playoff spot after they wrapped up their third-straight Southeast Division title when Atlanta lost to Columbus, 2-1, last night.

Forward Brooks Laich probably summed up the general feeling amongst his teammates when he talked about his emotions, or lack thereof, upon learning about the accomplishment...

HM's Random TGIF Musings and Other Sundry Items
By Hockey Mom at Musings Of A Hockey Mom

Welcome to the start of what's shaping up to be a rainy weekend here in D.C. sports fans! Speaking of storms, the Caps will host the Tampa Bay Lightning and their 42-goal scoring wunderkind Steven Stamkos at the Phone Booth tonight. The Capitals clinched the Southeast Division title last night (big Hockey Mom fist bump) as Atlanta fell to Columbus. Despite that crowning achievement, the boys still have to keep their eyes on the big prize (the one made of silver that's perfect for sipping post-victory champagne from, named after that Lord Stanley fellow)...

Looking Ahead... I Mean Sort Of Way Ahead ....
By Usually Frustrated Caps Fan at Mark's Musings

...I look into my crystal ball, besides Ovechkin, I for see a lot of the current core still here as long as the Caps keep producing and winning. Sure I understand that will put pressure on the roster because of the salary cap and some departures are inevitable but I still see much of the current core remaining intact for another two or three seasons...

Slash In Engelbert Disaster!
By mdome at Classic Rock

Have Velvet Revolver found a new singer? And could it be a 60s crooner? What are we on about? Read on...

Slash got together with none other than Engelbert Humperdinck to perform on Canadian TV show The Hour this week. They teamed up with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame under the name of Faster Disaster. Now, the rumour mill is suggesting ol’ Engelbert, known for such hits as Release Me and The Last Waltz, could be the man for Velvet Revolver.

It reminds us of the time that Tom Jones was linked with Black Sabbath all those years ago!

Alex Ovechkin: Playmaker
By Becca H at Japers' Rink

In his five years with the Caps, Alex Ovechkin has without a doubt become the scariest and most prolific goal-scorer in the NHL. His goal totals already border on historic, both within the franchise and League-wide.

And yet for all the talk of his goal-scoring prowess, one of the more underrated aspects of his game has been his ability to set up plays, to find linemates with a perfect pass, to be a playmaker as well as a sniper. His assist totals are often right up there with his goals...

Back of the envelope
by The Peerless at The Peerless Prognosticator

Some quick number shuffling got us to thinking... it's not goaltending, it's not the defense (or perhaps at least defensemen) that could spell the undoing of the Caps. It's penalty-killing (but you probably suspected that)...

Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Alex Lifeson, Henry Rollins and a load of rock’n'roll vampires – doesn’t get much better than that. It’s all happening in new movie Suck.

The storyline isn’t exactly original – rock band looking for fame, immortality and a record deal eventually get more than they bargained for – but it seems like good, wholesome, bloodletting fun.
