Today's Tune: "Ride The Wild Wind" By Queen

May 1, 1994 photo of Ayrton Senna by Mark Sandten / Getty Images

Like many Formula One racing fans, today I'm remembering three-time world champion Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna. Senna died on May 1, 1994, from severe head injuries sustained in a crash, while leading in the controversial 1994 Italian (San Marino) Grand Prix.

That whole weekend was pretty wierd, as many many things went wrong, before and during the actual race. During the Friday qualifying, Rubens Barrichello (also from Brazil) was involved in a bad accident, when his car flew into a stack of tires and a fence after becoming airborne. Barrichello would eventually recover from his injuries, but Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger was killed in qualifying the next day (Saturday), when he crashed into a concrete wall. Ayrton Senna, was very upset by the incidents and how things were handled at the time, but he would still race on Sunday.

Unfortunately, there was another accident and safety car issues at the start the race, then tragedy struck after the restart. Senna's car ran off the track and crashed into a concrete wall. The car broke into pieces, pieces which caused multiple and fatal head injuries to the racing legend.

2010 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix Review

Sebastian Vettel celebrates win at 2010 Brazilian GP.

On November 7, 2010, the 2010 Brazilian Grand Prix was held at Autódromo José Carlos Pace in São Paulo, Brazil. It was round 18 of the 2010 Formula One Season. Sebastian Vettel won the race and Mark Webber came in second. Their one-two finish gave Red Bull Renault the Constructors' Championship for the first time. Still hanging on to a narrow margin of eight points with only one more race to go, the Drivers' Championship leader, Spanish Scuderia Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso followed with a third place finish.

Links to the most important Formula1.com posts on this race, from final practice to qualifying and on through to post race reactions, are in this review list. I've also included a highlights video.

Preview links for this race can be found within the last couple regular 'Reading And Viewing List' blog entries here at Junior's Eyes. For more articles, visit the Formula1.com archives.

Qualifying analysis - Hulkenberg ahead, but for how long?
Posted at Formula1.com on November 6, 2010

Everyone expected the fight for pole position at Interlagos to be dominated by this season's five title contenders. Seventh Star & Eternal Idol Deluxe Edition Reviews
By Joe Siegler at Black Sabbath Online

I got in the mail yesterday my copies of The Eternal Idol and Seventh Star "Deluxe Editions" from Universal Records. I was very much anticipating the releases of these two. Primarily because of what is on Disc 2 of "The Eternal Idol". Black Sabbath fans (well, ones of this era of the band's history) have known about the fact that Ray Gillen recorded the Eternal Idol album, and left before it was released. Tony Martin came in at the end, and re-recorded the vocals with just two weeks to go, using all of Ray's vocal lines and all that. It relegated the Ray Gillen version to the archives, and became something of a collector's item in bootleg trading circles...

You have cemented yourself as a prospect to watch, except the next year you end up playing for three different teams in Canadian juniors (Plymouth, Windsor, Oshawa). No matter – you still put up a combined 17-7-8 record and go 7-2, 2.49, .928 in the post-season with Oshawa. Not much more to prove here...

Solberg convinced he's on the brink of WRC victory

Petter Solberg says it's only a matter of time before he returns to winning ways in the World Rally Championship.

Solberg, 35, last won at WRC level on Rally GB in September 2005. But after coming close to victory on Rally Japan last week, the Norwegian is convinced that it’s a case of when rather than if he will win again.

Today's Tune: "Zoom Club" By Budgie

On January 21, 1976, the supersonic Concorde jet was put into service by both Great Britain and France. London, England to Bahrain and Paris, France to Rio De Jineiro, Brazil were the first routes for the speedy metal bird.

This bit of flight history makes for an easy connection to our 'Today's Tune' on this day. Welsh rock band Budgie makes an appearance with the well wishing motivator track, "Zoom Club", off the 'In For The Kill' (1974) album.
