Today's Tune: "Bohemian Rhapsody" Sung By Montserrat Caballe And Bruce Dickinson

Popular photo of Bruce Dickinson found uncredited at Flightglobal.com .

For today's 'Today's Tune', I went for a singing combo that will shock many people on this, English singer Bruce Dickinson's (Samson, Iron Maiden) birthday. Everybody is familiar with the duet recordings of the late rocker Freddie Mercury (Queen) and Spanish opera legend Montserrat Caballe ('Lucrezia Borgia', 'Madama Butterfly', 'Norma'), but just to post something by Dickenson that you might not have heard before, I offer Caballe and Dickinson covering the huge classic rock song "Bohemian Rhapsody".

Born on an August 7: 1932 - English film and television actor Edward Hardwicke ('The Day Of The Jackal', Sherlock Holmes, 'Love Actually'), 1952 - English comedian, social commentator and author Alexei Sayle (' 'Ullo John!, Gotta New Motor?', The Young Ones, 'Gorky Park'), 1966 - American Internet entrepreneur Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia) and 1987 - talented NHL hockey playing creep Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins)

Noteworthy people who have died on the 7th of August: 1485 - Scottish Prince Alexander Stewart, American comedian and actor Oliver Hardy (Laurel And Hardy, 'A Haunting We Will Go', 'The Fighting Kentuckian' ) and Canadian born news man Peter Jennings.

Historical events for the 7th of August: 1959 - Launching of Explorer 6, 1976 - Viking 2 entered into orbit around the planet Mars, 1985 - Japan chose Takao Doi, Mamoru Mohri and Chiaki Mukai as their first three astronauts.

August 19th Birthdays

It's amazing how so many famous people were born on the date of August 19th. The following are a few that have helped entertain me, develope my taste in music and affect who I am.

Ginger Baker turns 69 today. Baker is the legendary drummer that is best known for playing in the bands Cream and the short lived Blind Faith. Happy birthday to you, yah big kook.

Ian Gillan is now 63 years old. He sang on one album (Born Again) and part of a tour with Black Sabbath, and has done various other projects, including some solo work. Most of his career has been spent with Deep Purple. Gillan is currently touring Europe with Deep Purple. Hope you have a good one, Ian.

Happy 57th birthday to John Deacon. Deacon was the bass player for Queen. He also played some guitar and wrote some of their biggest hits. John is a very rich, but definitely retired musician.
