The Rest of the Season In The Eastern Conference
By Usually Frustrated Caps Fan at Mark's Musings

The Capitals pace this season is blistering and they've picked up where they left off once the Olympics Break was over going 3-0 since play has resumed. The Caps now have a few interesting magic numbers. They still have 17 games left to play this season but because they lead the Southeast Division by 30 points and 14 games their magic number to clinch the Southeast Division is just 3 - any combination of 3 wins by the Capitals or 3 losses by the the Atlanta Thrashers and the Caps likely clinch the Division...

Petter admits to a 'little regret' over his tactical choice
Posted at WRC.com

After taking second place in Rally Mexico, and clinching his best WRC result for two years, Citroen driver Petter Solberg has admitted to feeling 'a little regret' over his decision not to employ road position tactics on Friday.

Having built a 17 second lead on Friday afternoon, Solberg had been expected to drop time on SS17 - the stage which determined Saturday's road order - to let one or two cars go though the stages before him on day two and sweep the road of loose gravel...

In the Midst of a Season to Remember
By The Peerless at The Peerless Prognosticator

Tonight, the Hershey Bears defeated the Adirondack Phantoms, 4-2, to win their 23rd consecutive game on home ice, a professional hockey record. The win put the Bears ahead of the Muskegon Mohawks of the International Hockey League, who won 22 in a row in 1965-1966. It is the latest record in a record-setting season for the Bears...

Citroen team boss reflects on his Mexican 1-2-3

Citroen Racing team principal Olivier Quesnel has paid tribute to the three C4 World Rally Car crews who today secured the first ever 1-2-3 result on a WRC gravel rally for a French manufacturer.

Victory in Rally Mexico for defending champions Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena puts them in the lead in the Drivers World Championship. While Sebastien Ogier and Petter Solberg drove their C4 World Rally Cars to second and third place...

S-WRC: Pons steals class win on his Fiesta S2000 debut
Posted at WRC.com

With only three stages to complete on Sunday, overnight class leader Martin Prokop and Spain’s Xavier Pons were set for a showdown on the dusty Mexican plains to decide who took the S-WRC win.

Pons produced a remarkable time in Sunday's opening Special Stage (SS19) that was sufficient to push him back above Prokop and into an S-WRC lead he had lost with clutch problems on Saturday...

Let There Be (Good) Music and Dancing Amid All This Winning
By pucksandbooks at On Frozen Blog

When I think of the two most significant advances/evolutions in Caps’ hockey over the course of 35 years, and their impact on hockey culture here, I point to the rabid red atmosphere enveloping the team at home in Chinatown and the team’s new-age approach to cultivating media coverage...

Sebastien Loeb wins Rally Mexico!

Citroen C4 WRC driver Sebastien Loeb sealed a crushing victory on Rally Mexico today, round two of the 2010 World Rally Championship, to leap into the lead of the FIA Drivers' standings.

Loeb, the defending and six-times World Champion built up a massive lead of almost a minute during Saturday's competition, and cruised through Sunday's three stages to finish 24.2sec ahead of Petter Solberg who claimed second place in another Citroen C4 WRC...

SS21: Fastest time for Petter sets up final stage thriller!
Posted at WRC.com

A fastest time for Citroen privateer Petter Solberg on Rally Mexico's penultimate stage put him firmly back in the fight with Sebastien Ogier for second place - a scrap which will be settled on the final 4.42km Super Special.

Solberg completed the 17km Comanjilla 0.8sec quicker than Ogier, to trail the Frenchman by just six-tenths going into the decisive head-to-head test...

Christian Band Stryper to cover Black Sabbath
By Joe Siegler at Black Sabbath Online

Saw this morning (oddly enough as I was getting ready for Church myself) a story that surprised me a little. The Christian metal band Stryper's new album will be an album of covers. That kind of thing has been done a few times before, most recently Queensryche's album of covers "Take Cover", where they covered Sabbath's Neon Knights. I found it amusing that Stryper is covering Sabbath too, and the Dio Era as well with the title track of "Heaven & Hell". Here's the complete listing of tracks...

Postgame Notebook: Capitals 2, Rangers 0
By Mike Vogel - Senior Writer at WashingtonCaps.com

Baker’s Dozen – Caps goalie Jose Theodore stopped all 30 shots he faced to help the Capitals to their 13th consecutive win on Verizon Center ice, a 2-0 whitewash of the New York Rangers.

“I thought he was great,” exudes Caps coach Bruce Boudreau, when asked about Theodore. “I thought he was by far our best player… Any time they were putting pressure on us, Jose [Theodore] would get it and he would stop it and he would not let a rebound go tonight and that’s, I think, the key to his game. He’s brimming with confidence and we hope he can keep it.”...

Rally Mexico - Sunday's stage guide
Posted at WRC.com

Sunday’s final day of Rally Mexico is a short, sharp affair comprising just three stages and 51.49 competitive kilometres after the pre-event cancellation of the day's second test, the 7.05km Sauz Seco, for safety reasons.

After a 0745hrs start, crews will face two tests in the countryside to the north and east of Leon before a final pass over the Super Special on the edge of the city. The finish ceremony is at 1300hrs...

Loeb takes a 55 second lead into Rally Mexico's final day

Six-times World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb will take an 55.5sec lead into Sunday's third and final day of Rally Mexico after a dominating performance today during which he won eight of nine Special Stages.

I Am Ozzy
By Kameron at I May Have Been Born Yesterday
But I Stayed Up All Night

In fact, I am not Ozzy -- sorry if that's a disappointment. I'm referring to Ozzy Osbourne's autobiography I Am Ozzy.

I finished the book a few days ago, and thought it was very interesting and entertaining. Ozzy discusses his early life in a lower class family (their diet was so limited he jokes about dying of cabbage poisoning), his musical career with Black Sabbath and as a solo performer, and addictions. Having been a fan of Sabbath and Ozzy for most of my life, this book was a treat...

SS15: Solberg back up to second

SS12: Loeb heads a Citroen 1-2-3 at Saturday's midpoint
Posted at WRC.com

With only the 1.5km sprint stage to run before midday service, Citroen C4 WRC driver Sebastien Loeb has been the class of the Rally Mexico field so far today.

Starting the day third, 27.5seconds off the lead, the Frenchman won each of the morning's three countryside stages to return to Leon in first place, 16.6 seconds ahead of overnight leader Petter Solberg...

SS10: Carnage on Saturday's opener
Posted at WRC.com

Like Friday, the rally's second day dawned clear and dry and from 0700hrs, as the sun rose over Leon, crews filed out of the Service Park to head to the first of three gravel tests in the hills north and east of Leon.

Saturday's opening stage, Ibarilla, was the longest of the rally at 29.90km and also proved to be the most dramatic of the event so far - bringing about the retirement of three top 10 drivers...

Jimi Hendrix is playing the Pyramid Stage
at the Glastonbury Festival

By mdome at Classic Rock

Well, he is in a clever video clip created by Julien Temple for the song Bleeding Heart, which is on the new album Valleys Of Neptune, released next week. In it, the combination of Glasto fans and Hendrix onstage gives the impression of the legendary guitarist performing at the celebrated festival.

It’s all part of a mini fantasy, which ends with a cameo appearance from Glastonbury promoter Michael Eavis. Check it out for yourself here.
*Dan, Jr. / Junior's Eyes Note: Cute video fabrication of Hendrix at Glasto.

Black Country are no more. But fear not, Glenn Hughes’ new band aren’t splitting up, just changing their name.

...Reviewing any posthumous Jimi Hendrix album is a task undertaken with mixed emotions.

Saturday Night Date With Rangers
By Mike Vogel - Senior Writer at WashingtonCaps.com

Washington’s five-game homestand continues on Saturday when the New York Rangers visit Verizon Center. The game closes out the season’s series between the Capitals and the Blueshirts and it is also Washington’s final Saturday night home date of the regular season.

New York is one of only three teams to knock off the Capitals in regulation time in 30 games at Verizon Center this season. The Blueshirts handed the Caps their first home setback of the season on Oct. 8. The Rangers’ Marian Gaborik fueled that 4-3 New York win with a pair of third-period goals, but he has missed New York's last four games with an injury and is questionable for Saturday's game...

Peter Frampton Interviewed On 100.7 The Bay

As I've mentioned before, Peter Frampton will be playing in Baltimore, MD at Rams Head Live! tomorrow night, Friday August 15th. He was recently interviewed by 100.7 The Bay FM Radio DJ Colleen Carew. He was in good spirits that morning, a couple weeks ago. Happy as ever and ready to roll. I'm sure he's going to put on a great show tomorrow night. They talked for just over seven minutes. They covered the current tour, getting older, TV shows, commercials, where Peter lives these days, family and more. Click on this link to hear that interview.

A Few More August 2008 Concerts In Mid-Atlantic

When I posted 'August 2008 Concerts In Mid-Atlantic' a couple days ago, I missed some shows I should've mentioned. Jethro Tull and Foreigner will both be in the region this month.

Jethro Tull was in Vienna, VA last night and Bethlehem, PA tonight, but the opening act for the '40TH Anniversary Tour' concert at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts tomorrow night is Peter Frampton. They are still showing lawn seats available for a mere $25.00! If you'll be in the Philadelphia, PA area and you don't hit this bargain, you're crazy.

You have a few chances to see Foreigner in the region this month. They are without singer Lou Gramm these days, but Kelly Hansen has a similar, though less powerful voice. Check them out for $15.00 (in advance / includes fair entry) at the Maryland State Fair in Timonium, MD on the 28th or see them at the Shenandoah County Fair in Woodstock, VA on the 29th. They visit the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ on the 30th ($150.00 VIP tickets = Ouch! ) and Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ on August 31st (Concert included with park admission). After that, they take a break for a couple weeks before doing shows out West.

August 2008 Concerts In Mid-Atlantic

The weather has been heating up and so has the local concert schedule. There are plenty of good shows to catch in the Mid-Atlantic area this August.

Counting Crows and Maroon 5 played Hershey Park Stadium in Hershey, PA tonight. On Friday, the stadium will be filled with the heavy sounds of Poison and Dokken. If you're a fan of Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, you can catch them there on the 19th. The Allman Brothers Band bring their bluesy southern rock to Hershey Monday August 25th. The other half of that bill is Bob Weir and RatDog. Ending the month's shows at Hershey, is a triple threat concert of Journey, Heart and Cheap Trick on the 28th.

At Rams Head Live! in Baltimore, MD tonight, Metallica wannabes and an embarrassment to all of us with even partial Welsh heritage, Bullet For My Valentine were scheduled to play. Opening for them was Cancer Bats, who could be a halfway decent band if they had a singer fronting the band instead of whatever you would call Liam Cormier. One upcoming concert that does get me excited, and for the right reasons, is Peter Frampton. He'll be playing real Rock and Roll music at Rams Head on Friday, August 15th. Ted Nugent may be a total whack job, but he sure can play guitar. You can "Wango Tango" with him on the 26th.

There are many reasons to visit Baltimore's Pier Six Pavilion this month. They'll have a wide range of musical styles in the entertainers headlining the venue. I'll just mention the most interesting. Classic Rock takes the stage on August 13th, when both Boston and Styx play there. Eight time Grammy Award winner Anita Baker follows with her beautiful voice two nights later, on the 15th. We change gears again on the 19th, with a harder edged style of blues in the forms of George Thorogood And The Destroyers and Buddy Guy. Performing their own hits, as well as 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' in it's entirety on August 21st, is an odd mix of musicians if you ask me (nobody's asking me). The list for the 'Sgt. Peppers' Tribute includes the great talents Todd Rundgren (He's gone metal with his latest album, you know), Lou Gramm (of Foreigner) and Denny Laine (of The Moody Blues, Wings), along with the less popular Christopher Cross and Bo Bice (former American Idol contestant). Speaking of Idols, Billy Idol will be at Pier Six on the 22nd. The wonderful blues artist Robert Cray will share the bill with Keb' Mo' on Saturday, August 23rd during the "Bringin' It Back Home Tour".

This coming weekend, Saturday August 9th and Sunday August 10th, it's time for "Virgin Music Festival 2008" . Held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD as it has been each year since 2006, the festival will have a boat load of talent. The artists scheduled to perform this year include Bob Dylan, Nine Inch Nails, The Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots, Iggy Pop And The Stooges, etc., etc., etc.

There's a few really good concerts at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA (a.k.a. Washington, DC) this month. The 'Metal Masters Tour 2008' featuring Motorhead, Judas Priest, Heaven And Hell and Testament rocks the place on Thursday, the 7th. Counting Crows along with Maroon 5, as well as Sara Bareilles visit on the 16th. The legendary singer, Rod Stewart appears on Sunday, August 24th. Finally, on the 27th, the combo of Journey, Heart and Cheap Trick play at Nissan Pavilion.
