Classic Rock’s New Releases Round-Up

...Dio At Donington UK: Live 1983 & 1987 (Niji Entertainment) brings us the two memorable Dio performances at Monsters Of Rock. Both are thunderous and imposing, but the first CD has a slight edge, if only because Ronnie and his new band had a lot to prove – and did so.

Dio’s presence on Heaven & Hell’s 30 Years Of Heaven & Hell- Live At Wacken (Armoury Records) is slightly poignant, given that this was recorded last year, and we now know what he was suffering...

Seventh Star & Eternal Idol Deluxe Edition Reviews
By Joe Siegler at Black Sabbath Online

I got in the mail yesterday my copies of The Eternal Idol and Seventh Star "Deluxe Editions" from Universal Records. I was very much anticipating the releases of these two. Primarily because of what is on Disc 2 of "The Eternal Idol". Black Sabbath fans (well, ones of this era of the band's history) have known about the fact that Ray Gillen recorded the Eternal Idol album, and left before it was released. Tony Martin came in at the end, and re-recorded the vocals with just two weeks to go, using all of Ray's vocal lines and all that. It relegated the Ray Gillen version to the archives, and became something of a collector's item in bootleg trading circles...

The 2010 Korean Grand Prix, the seventeenth round of the 2010 Formula One Season, was held at the just barely finished in time Korean International Circuit in Yeongam, South Korea on October 24, 2010. Coming in first place in South Korea's first ever Formula 1 Grand Prix race, Spanish Scuderia Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso retook the driver championship lead. His teammate, Brazilian driver Felipe Massa, took third after second place finisher Lewis Hamilton (McLaren Mercedes).

Below, are links to the main Formula1.com stories of this race, from qualifying and on through to post race reactions in a review list. Please, also enjoy the highlights video.

Qualifying analysis - stage set for epic Korean battle

All five title challengers have enjoyed strong performances on the demanding Korean circuit, but during qualifying it was Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel who emerged on pole position. With Mark Webber alongside him on the front row, Red Bull seem to hold the advantage, but Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button aren't ready to throw in the towel just yet. We take a team-by-team look...

Korea analysis - Alonso back in the driving seat
Posted at Formula1.com on October 25, 2010

A couple of months back many had ruled him out of the title fight. Fernando Alonso maintained he could still do it and after his faultless drive to the top of the table in Korea - his third win in four races - his doubters are now eating their words. The Spaniard's brilliance in Yeongam's testing conditions, combined with a disastrous day for Red Bull, means that with just two rounds to go he heads the standings by 11 points...

As you can see from the advert we obtained from the Vertigo Swirl website which was published in the October 10th edition of Record Mirror, the lable were very proud of this landmark achievement for them and the band. I wonder if they could have ever imagined that the record would still be making waves all these years on. We asked Dr Andy Cope, author of Black Sabbath and the Rise of Heavy Metal to give the musicology perspective on the album which reached the top of the UK album charts 40 years ago.
