Recap: Bruins 3, Caps 2
By J.P. at Japers' Rink

...Last Saturday night's loss to Colorado was seen by most as the best game the Caps had played during the streak - a step in the right direction. Then came Sunday night at Madison Square Garden. Wednesday night's Anaheim loss was better again. Then came Saturday night in Boston (which, after the first 20 minutes, looked pretty decent). But one step forward, one or two steps back isn't good enough. Atta boys for efforts don't erase eight losses in a row. Something has to change...

Matt Bradley, Always the Gentleman (Sorta)
By Elisabeth Meinecke at On Frozen Blog

By Becca H at Japers' Rink

It's hard to define "rock bottom" until you see what comes after it, because until it gets better there's no frame of reference. Still, losing a sixth straight game in such an embarrassing fashion has to be seen as something of a rock bottom point for this team - this team that is expected to do so much, this team that has all the talent in the world, not only failing to score but giving up a seven-spot to the Rangers...

Notes from a Subdued Friday After Thursday’s High Drama
By pucksandbooks at On Frozen Blog

Friday at camp offered a striking contrast in atmosphere relative to Thursday. No big-news presser, no buzz over a free agent’s hat trick from a game the night before, and when Gabby met the media near 2:00 there was only the Washington Post’s Katie Carrera and yours truly there with questions for the coach. The exchange lasted all of about 5 minutes...

Friday analysis - normal service resumed at Red Bull?
Posted at Formula1.com

A track that was still damp in places, where it had been resurfaced, kept the times slow in the first Singapore session on Friday, and it remained slippery in the second as oil seeped through that new surface. It was enough to keep most teams guessing through the 180 minutes of running time. One thing that was clear was that Red Bull, back in more comfortable high-downforce territory, seem to have rediscovered some serious speed. We take a team-by-team look at the early running at Marina Bay...

NHL to New Media: Go Fly a Kite
By pucksandbooks at On Frozen Blog

This news, delivered last night by AOL Fanhouse, incensed me. In the epitome of Neanderthal progressivism, the NHL, beginning this season, is going to implement a ban on access by bloggers to visiting locker rooms at all arenas. Because you know, the collective work of hockey bloggers the past five-plus years has been, on the whole, so counterproductive, so destructive for the league, generated so precious little additional interest in the sport...

2010-2011 Previews: Forwards -- Eric Fehr
By The Peerless at The Peerless Prognosticator

...What Fehr was last year, though, was extremely efficient as a goal scorer. Among forwards dressing for at least 50 games, only three averaged more than Fehr’s 1.48 goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 (behindthenet.ca). And that is a who’s who of scorers – Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin, and Sidney Crosby. Among those same forwards dressing for at least 50 games he ranked in the top 20 percent in goals-allowed/on-ice per 60 minutes (behindthenet.ca)...

The Constructive Purpose of Anger In Five Steps
By The Peerless at The Peerless Prognosticator

If there is an early watchword to the eve of a new Capitals season, it is "anger." The Caps are angry over losing early in last spring's playoffs. Even getting back to business involves staying angry...

2010-2011 Previews: Forwards -- Matt Bradley
By The Peerless at The Peerless Prognosticator

Matt Bradley has been a Capital for five seasons, during which he has compiled 33 goals and 85 points in 366 regular season games. He also has recorded 37 fights in that time. His win-loss record in those bouts isn’t as important as his willingness to engage in the practice. Bradley is what many might call an “energy” player, the sort who in a 45- second shift might get a couple of good hits, forecheck aggressively, and generally make a nuisance of himself. But he is not, by any definition of the term, an enforcer. But no one in the NHL seems more willing to sacrifice himself by stepping in for a teammate...

Barrichello milestones - 300 Grands Prix and counting

Aged 38, Rubens Barrichello’s passion for racing shows no sign of abating - as his wheel-to-wheel tussle with former team mate Michael Schumacher in Hungary proved. Winning out against the 41-year-old German, it was a battle born out of a different era. For Barrichello, who will celebrate his 300th Grand Prix in Belgium this weekend, it was all par for the course, but for his legion of fans it was further proof of the unswerving verve and vigour of the grid’s most experienced driver. The Summer of Fat Albert Brings Bad News for the Hockey Beat
By pucksandbooks at On Frozen Blog

At the very top of the hockey media hierarchy here there have been ominous departures this summer — Tarik El Bashir is pursuing new beats within the Post’s sports department, ones which won’t require anywhere near the travel commitments the hockey beat does, while Lisa Hillary is bolting to cover the Flyers for Comcast in Philadelphia. Tarik’s departure came as a bit of a shock earlier this summer, and is disappointing given the volume and quality of product he brought to the beat, particularly in the past couple of seasons. For a lot of hockey fans in this town, Tarik’s commitment and work ethic arrived as a breath of fresh air on a beat that for a generation of editors on 15th St. seemed little more than a way station, a step barely above internship at Redskins Central. Hillary’s departure, however, is more discouraging...

A Blogger’s Faith in Government Restored: The Formation

The greeting from the congressman in his office this week was sudden and startling: “Can you blog and walk at the same time?” Nebraska Representative Lee Terry, smiling, asked as he stepped out of a closed-door meeting to meet me.

I was more than a little nervous meeting the congressman on Tuesday. Standing next to the world’s greatest hockey player 40 or 50 nights each winter with a digital recorder is old hat; being in the Rayburn House Office Building awaiting a one-on-one interview with a member of Congress most definitely is not. The Rest of the Season In The Eastern Conference

The Capitals pace this season is blistering and they've picked up where they left off once the Olympics Break was over going 3-0 since play has resumed. The Caps now have a few interesting magic numbers. They still have 17 games left to play this season but because they lead the Southeast Division by 30 points and 14 games their magic number to clinch the Southeast Division is just 3 - any combination of 3 wins by the Capitals or 3 losses by the the Atlanta Thrashers and the Caps likely clinch the Division...

Saturday Night Date With Rangers

Washington’s five-game homestand continues on Saturday when the New York Rangers visit Verizon Center. The game closes out the season’s series between the Capitals and the Blueshirts and it is also Washington’s final Saturday night home date of the regular season.
