Today's Tune: "(I'm Not) Born To Lose"
By Black Sabbath

This is what I want to see after Game 7 on May 12, 2012!
Photo by Bruce Bennett / Getty Images after Game 2 win on April 30, 2012.

There is a song that has played in my head many times since my NHL team, the Washington Capitals, made it into the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. I think it fits the frame of mind that this team has right now, and I feel it too.

It's a Black Sabbath track titled "(I'm Not) Born To Lose" (1987). Clearly, the confidence and persistence that the Capitals have shown throughout the first two rounds, are proof that they are ready to win. They need one more (Game 7) win tonight against the New York Rangers to move on to round three, the Eastern Conference Finals. To have a chance at doing it, all they have to do is keep doing what they've been doing, and work together as a team.

Please enjoy this Hockey Music styled 'Today's Tune'. Dan, Jr., of Junior's Eyes, is anticipating that there are many more to come, yet.

Let's Go, Caps!

Today's Tune: "I'm The Show" By Max Havoc

The Washington Capitals are at home tonight for Game 3, after having split the first two games of their semifinal playoff series (NHL) with the New York Rangers in New York, New York.

As they continue their run in the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs this evening, they are the show to watch, for me and many other fans. Junior's Eyes had this in mind when choosing the Hockey Music track for this 'Today's Tune'.

This time, it comes from 1980s Los Angeles, California metal band, Max Havoc. "I'm The Show" (with it's overly simplistic, yet fun lyrics) is on their only album, also called 'Max Havoc' (1983). I'm still happy to have this vinyl gem in my personal collection.

You can thank Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward for getting the band their start. Then, you can thank bad timing for their early finish. Here's hoping the Capitals have a long run in this year's post season.

Black Sabbath Updates Through February 2012

Black Sabbath at album / tour press conference on November 11, 2011.

There has been a lot going on with the band Black Sabbath, involving both past and present members. Some of the news has been good, some has been quite unfortunate.

Cancer has hit founding member, guitarist Tony Iommi. Reunion tour dates for 2012 have been cancelled or changed to "Ozzy and Friends" events. There was a contractual disagreement between band and founding member, drummer Bill Ward.

On to the good news. Deluxe album reissues (import only for North America) are coming on March 19th from the band Dio, which featured former Sabbath lead vocalist, the late Ronnie James Dio. Former lead singer Tony Martin has apparently got his Tony Martin era Black Sabbath music playing band, Tony Martin’s Headless Cross, gearing up to tour.

To get all the details on these happenings and more, you should visit the fan site run by Joe Siegler. It's called Black Sabbath Online, and I post links to his updates on a fairly regular basis, because he makes sure he gets the story straight. If you want unbiased, factual and accurate information on Black Sabbath, and the group's family tree, you go to Joe.

To read up on the things I've listed above in particular, this is the link to the Black Sabbath Online archive for February 2012.

That Was The Week That Was -- Week 6 (November 13 - 19)
By The Peerless at The Peerless Prognosticator

Week Six was a week to forget. The Caps looked bad on the ice, were subjected to any manner and number of “what’s wrong” navel-gazing exercises from hockey intelligentsia, and fell almost all the way out of the Eastern Conference’s top-eight. Four weeks ago they were 7-0-0 and dreaming sweet dreams of success. Four weeks later they are 3-7-1 since then and have nightmares that they are playing like also rans. So what did this week have in it?...

More 2012 Tour Dates
By Joe Siegler at Black Sabbath Online

That didn't take long. I always assumed it would be longer until more 2012 Tour dates were announced. This appears to be similar to the 1998 "tour", when Black Sabbath played a bunch of European festival dates. This isn't the full fledged "World Tour" which will commence once the new album actually comes out. Although.. By this point in the process, I'd imagine they'd have all the songs mostly written. It wouldn't surprise me to hear at least one new song on these festival dates...

The Cage 3 Details!

Back in 1999, Tony Martin hooked up with Italian guitarist Dario Mollo to produce a project called "The Cage". It proved popular, so a second Cage album came out a few years later in 2002. David Tennant: 'My bedpost really has very few notches' – interview

He's been Casanova, Romeo and the Doctor. Just don't call David Tennant a pin-up.

There's a moment in the current production of Much Ado About Nothing that I particularly love. It's not when David Tennant's Benedick makes his entrance as a sun-bronzed prat in a golf buggy, nor his Cary Grant-style rat-a-tat-tat delivery of lines such as, "I would my horse had the speed of your tongue", not even when he finally gets to kiss Catherine Tate's Beatrice. It's the encore when Tennant skips across the stage, grinning from ear to ear, and you just know there's nothing on earth he'd rather be doing. I've never seen an actor so happy in his job...

Martin Popoff's "Black Sabbath FAQ"
By Joe Siegler at Black Sabbath Online

One of the things I get asked from time to time (usually after people read my timeline page) is why I don't write a book. The reason I usually give them is "What's the point? - There's a ton of books out there, and I'm not sure what unique perspective I could bring". So it was with that frame of mind that I first approached the news that a new Black Sabbath book was coming out from Martin Popoff. Martin's an old friend of mine, and I've got a couple of his older books as a customer. So I was thinking "Hey dude, you've already written a Sabbath book, what's with a second one?" Then I got a look at it. Martin figured out a proper angle for a repeat book on the same subject, not to present the band's history in a linear fashion like most every biography does. Here's the official blurb about the book:...

2010-11 Rink Wrap: Dennis Wideman
By Becca H at Japers' Rink

When the team acquired Wideman at the deadline for a draft pick and a prospect, they knew they were bringing in someone who could potentially boost the power play and bring a bit of stability to a blue line that had been worn away by injuries, most notably to Mike Green. And for the 14 games in which he dressed, Wideman was a more than adequate fill-in, skating just over 24 minutes a game for the Caps and providing the team with another puck-moving defenseman who could jump-start the attack...

Review: 'Doctor Who' - 'A Good Man Goes to War':
Are you my mommy?

But that news comes at the end of the episode, and what struck me before that was how overwhelmingly the hour was about how other people respond to the Doctor. That's obviously a running theme of the show, particularly in the way he upends the lives of his companions, but this episode felt like it was more about that than any other point in the modern series...
