2010 F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Review

The 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was held at Yas Marina Circuit, on Yas Island, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on November 14, 2010. It was the 19th and final round of the 2010 Formula One Season. The Driver's Championship lead changed several times heading toward the end of the season. It was finally decided for good when 23 years and four months old German Red Bull Renault driver Sebastian Vettel won the race, and became the youngest champion in Formula One history.

England's Lewis Hamilton, driving for McLaren Mercedes, finished second. Last season's champion, Lewis' English teammate Jenson Button was the third driver across the finish line.

As many of their rivals suspected they would, Red Bull found a little bit more pace in Saturday afternoon's final practice session in Abu Dhabi, and Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber set the fastest times of the weekend. The German lapped in 1m 40.696s, and the Australian was just 0.133s adrift with 1m 40.829s...

For the four remaining title contenders, qualifying for this weekend's title-deciding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was a fraught affair. When McLaren's Lewis Hamilton won the 2008 drivers' title, his entry into the record books was made all the more special as he became the sport's youngest-ever world champion. Just two seasons later and Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel has outshone even Hamilton, clinching his maiden championship in Abu Dhabi at 23 years and four months-old - a full five months younger than Hamilton was back in '08.

It's a remarkable achievement, made even more remarkable because up until the Yas Marina race there were still four drivers in with a shout at the drivers' crown. And not just any drivers - Hamilton, two-time champion Fernando Alonso and Vettel's own team mate Mark Webber. To take a title at such a young age is an accomplishment, but to beat drivers of such calibre is a feat indeed...

The 2010 Singapore Grand Prix, the fifteenth round of the 2010 Formula One Season, was held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Marina Bay, Singapore on September 26, 2010. Spanish Scuderia Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso started at pole posistion, and kept the lead from start to finish. Red Bull Renault drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber took second and third places.

Fernando Alonso scored his fourth win of the season in Singapore on Sunday night after a dramatic battle with Sebastian Vettel that saw them finish only two-tenths of a second apart after a race-long fight. Points leaders Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton collided while fighting for third place on the 36th lap. Hamilton was pitched out of the race with broken suspension, and Webber brought a vibrating Red Bull home third to increase his advantage in the title fight to 202 points to Alonso's 191, Hamilton's 182, Sebastian Vettel's 181 and fourth-placed Jenson Button's 177. The 2010 Belgian Grand Prix, the thirteenth round of the 2010 Formula One Season, was held at Circuit De Spa-Francorchamps in Spa, Belgium on August 29, 2010. Brazilian driver Rubens Barrichello celebrated his 300th Grand Prix, but Lewis Hamilton came in first, taking the championship lead from pole-sitter Mark Webber (finished second).

On last Sunday - July 25, 2010, the 2010 F1 German Grand Prix race was run at Hockenheimring, in Hockenheim, Germany. Scuderia Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso won, after his race leading Brazilian teammate Felipe Massa slowed and pulled over to let him pass during lap 49. Ferrari, who have been guilty of issuing such "team orders" before, were later fined the equivalent of 100,000 US dollars.

Ferrari have moved to quell media reports of friction between their two drivers after Fernando Alonso’s opportunistic pass on Felipe Massa as the pair entered the pit lane during Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.
