On A Roll – The Caps came up on the short end of a 4-3 shootout decision in the 2009-10 season finale against Boston this afternoon. But by any measure, Washington is heading into the postseason on quite a roll.
The Caps are 5-0-2 in their last seven games. They are 13-2-5 in 20 games since the conclusion of the NHL’s Olympic break. And they fashioned a 30-4-7 record (67 points) in the season’s second half. If maintained over the course of a full regular season slate of 82 games, Washington’s second-half pace would result in a league record for points in a season...

I was at Verizon Center today for a game that had no bearing in the Eastern Conference standings, and still I witnessed two teams push themselves to the very end. It's just not in a hockey player's mentality to go through the motions. From what I could tell, the only thing this game lacked was the usual physical intensity that accompanies NHL play.
For example, Mike Green diving to block a shot late in the game in a game that had no consequence, to me is a perfect example of players playing to the very bitter end. These two teams were not interested in bashing bodies today, not with so much on the line beginning next week. Boston rested its most intimidating player, Zdeno Chara, and two other key forwards, 42-year-old Mark Recchi and slick center Patrice Bergeron. Bruce Boudreau elected to give Eric Fehr and Tomas Fleischmann and Quintin Laing the day off up front...

US Troops Use Rock Music Against Taliban

US forces are using music from Thin Lizzy, Metallica and The Offspring to try and force Taliban insurgents in the southern Afghanistan province of Helmand out into the open.Said one officer from these American forces: “Taliban hate that music. Some locals complain but it’s a way to push them to choose. It’s motivating Marines as well. There are no obscenities but we tell them they’re gonna die”.
It’s not the first time American troops have used rock and metal bands as a weapon. In fact, it’s becoming almost the norm!

Sex Pistols’ Jones Remembers Malcolm McLaren

Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones has paid tribute to former manager Malcolm McLaren, who died a couple of days ago at the age of 64. Said Jones: “I was upset when I heard the news, as I’ve always had a soft spot for Malcolm. I knew him since I was 17 before the Pistols formed — I used to drive him around in Vivienne Westwood’s car to the tailors in London in the days of the Let It Rock clothing store.
“Malcolm was definitely the Brian Epstein of punk — without him it wouldn’t have happened the way it did. I stayed friends with him throughout the years despite some of our differences. He came on (my radio show) Jonesy’s Jukebox a couple of years ago, and that’s a good memory. But my fondest memory of Malcolm, and I loved the guy, was his birthday gift to me when I turned 21 — he got me a hooker and some heroin.”
