This time, it comes from 1980s Los Angeles, California metal band, Max Havoc. "I'm The Show" (with it's overly simplistic, yet fun lyrics) is on their only album, also called 'Max Havoc' (1983). I'm still happy to have this vinyl gem in my personal collection.
You can thank Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward for getting the band their start. Then, you can thank bad timing for their early finish. Here's hoping the Capitals have a long run in this year's post season.
There has been a lot going on with the band Black Sabbath, involving both past and present members. Some of the news has been good, some has been quite unfortunate.
Cancer has hit founding member, guitarist Tony Iommi. Reunion tour dates for 2012 have been cancelled or changed to "Ozzy and Friends" events. There was a contractual disagreement between band and founding member, drummer Bill Ward.
On to the good news. Deluxe album reissues (import only for North America) are coming on March 19th from the band Dio, which featured former Sabbath lead vocalist, the late Ronnie James Dio. Former lead singer Tony Martin has apparently got his Tony Martin era Black Sabbath music playing band, Tony Martin’s Headless Cross, gearing up to tour.
To get all the details on these happenings and more, you should visit the fan site run by Joe Siegler. It's called Black Sabbath Online, and I post links to his updates on a fairly regular basis, because he makes sure he gets the story straight. If you want unbiased, factual and accurate information on Black Sabbath, and the group's family tree, you go to Joe.

One of the things I get asked from time to time (usually after people read my timeline page) is why I don't write a book. The reason I usually give them is "What's the point? - There's a ton of books out there, and I'm not sure what unique perspective I could bring". So it was with that frame of mind that I first approached the news that a new Black Sabbath book was coming out from Martin Popoff. Martin's an old friend of mine, and I've got a couple of his older books as a customer. So I was thinking "Hey dude, you've already written a Sabbath book, what's with a second one?" Then I got a look at it. Martin figured out a proper angle for a repeat book on the same subject, not to present the band's history in a linear fashion like most every biography does. Here's the official blurb about the book:...

When the team acquired Wideman at the deadline for a draft pick and a prospect, they knew they were bringing in someone who could potentially boost the power play and bring a bit of stability to a blue line that had been worn away by injuries, most notably to Mike Green. ...Obviously, the big thing to talk about with "A Good Man Goes to War" is the revelation that River Song is, in fact, Amy and Rory's daughter, and I'll get to that in a moment. But that news comes at the end of the episode, and what struck me before that was how overwhelmingly the hour was about how other people respond to the Doctor. That's obviously a running theme of the show, particularly in the way he upends the lives of his companions, but this episode felt like it was more about that than any other point in the modern series...
Happy Birthday to Richard Wilson! On July 9, 1936, Wilson was born (Ian Colquhoun Wilson) in Greenock, a town in the old county of Renfrewshire, in Scotland. He has spent many years as a very well respected actor, theatre director and broadcaster. Wilson is mostly remembered for playing the very unlucky and grumpy old Victor Meldrew, for more than 10 years, in the BBC sitcom One Foot In The Grave.
Currently, Richard portrays Gaius, Camelot's court physician, in BBC's television drama Merlin.
Our featured track for this installment is the somewhat similarly titled "Dirty Women", a fun Black Sabbath tune, full of great guitar licks by metal riff master Tony Iommi.

One year ago today, singer and song writer Ronnie James Dio passed away (67 years old), by the hands of stomach cancer. Naturally, Ronnie has been on my mind, and remembered by millions and millions of other fans as well. Therefore, this 'Today's Tune' combo was selected to honor and remember that great man.
He was lead singer for some great bands in his time - Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven & Hell. Both of these tracks are originally from the first two Black Sabbath albums that Mr. Dio recorded with the band. I was fortunate enough to see Sabbath on both of the subsequent tours that followed. I remember those times fondly, to say the least.
The following video is from a live Heaven & Hell concert. A taste of "Country Girl", from 'Mob Rules' (1981), starts it off. Then, "Neon Knights" (1980), which was a single from the album 'Heaven And Hell', goes into full flight.

Loose Change Buffalo Sabres Vs Washington Capitals Home Game Review By Joe Beninati (Capitals Play-by-Play) at CSN - Washington, DC
...Whenever the Caps play the Sabres, it's a case study for which team can remain the most patient. Buffalo plays a deliberate style, which can frustrate a free-flowing team like Washington. The first period was full of whistles. The Caps did a nice job of avoiding trying to create something that wasn't there. They didn't overextend themselves...

...Everything was heavenly but then came the ‘hell’ part of the equation. Last November Iommi was forced to take a break for an operation on his hand so 67-year-old Ronnie James Dio arranged a tour with his band, Dio. However, it was suddenly cancelled when the singer was diagnosed with stomach cancer.
Meanwhile, Vinny Appice was forced to have surgery on his shoulder, injured while touring, putting him out of action for five months.

Later on, they got around to Tony himself ...
Tony’s hand is also healing well. The operation, involving stem-cell treatment, was something he’d put off for some time.
‘‘The cartilage between the thumb joints of my right hand, my fret hand, was rubbing, bone to bone. They’ve cured that but the bone’s been pushed back and I’ve been told I may need another operation to pull the bone up. I don’t particularly want to go there because I have a friend, also a guitar player, who had that operation and it all went pear shaped which put me off a bit.’’...
Happy Birthday Black Sabbath! Today is actually the birthday of the English rock band that many say invented "Heavy Metal" music, because it's the 40th anniversary of the release of their first album, also titled 'Black Sabbath' (Recorded in 1969 / Released in 1970). My choice for the 'Today's Tune' is naturally the title track, "Black Sabbath", so no big surprise there.
For much more on the band and the anniversary, check out today's post by Joe Siegler over at Black Sabbath Online. Otherwise, enjoy this great tune. It started a genre of music that many millions of people, including myself, love a great deal.

Turning point? In a game in which the Caps trailed 4-1, I actually thought it came with Ovi beating Marc-Andre Fleury on a second-period breakaway to cut a 2-0 deficit in half. Once Jeff Schultz’s head-man pass found Ovi’s tape and the Gr8 broke free on the breakaway, instantly I thought back to game 7 here last May. Same skater, same goalie, much different outcome...
The 'Today's Tune' for this day is "Junior's Eyes" (1978), by the English heavy metal band Black Sabbath. There are some very big reasons for picking this song today.
I'm not going to link this song to anything of great historical importance. Posting it on this date has nothing to do with anybody's birth date. It's not because someone I admired or was interested in died on this date.
So, just what are my reasons for picking "Junior's Eyes"? Well, it's nothing Earth shattering, really.
The song title matches my blog title, and there's a good reason why. I named my blog after it. After considering many original name ideas, conjured up from words involved in my many different interests, I picked a song title that wouldn't tie me down into any one particular area of subject matter.
Also, after hunting for a good video (live action, audio only, etc.) of the track off and on since I began this blog on December 1, 2007, somebody finally posted one on YouTube recently. Yeah, I know, I should've uploaded the music myself. But, I didn't.
I've got another very good reason for picking today to feature this brilliant Sabbath tune. There wasn't enough time in my day for finding another song, with a quality linking reason for posting it.
Finally, I Love It! It's very different from earlier Black Sabbath records. It actually goes back toward their blues and jazz like roots, from before they started recording albums to be released to the masses.
When I think of Tom Baker, my thoughts are drawn to the time he spent as Doctor Who. So, for the 'Today's Tune', I picked the song "Who Are You?" by England's heavy metal pioneers, Black Sabbath. It was first released on the 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' album in December of 1973. The album tour began in January of 1974, the same year Tom Baker began his tour as the Doctor.
There's been a lot of talk lately about drummer Bill Ward and his desire for another reunion of the original Black Sabbath lineup. Much has been made of his recent comments, like those at the end of an interview that appeared in The Shropshire Star, perhaps too much.
Personally, I would love to see it happen. With the success of Heaven & Hell (Black Sabbath / Dio fusion) though, I don't see it happening in the next couple years anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if former singer Ozzy Osbourne was up for it, but he's also doing fine with his band and TVshows as well.
In the following recent Kerrang! video podcast, Bill talks about early Black Sabbath album rereleases and his feelings on a possible Black Sabbath reunion. He also answers questions about the past, present and future, in relation to Black Sabbath, Ozzy, guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler.
Happy 60th birthday to one of rock's finest drummers, Bill Ward. Bill is my personal favorite heavy metal drummer of all time. He has done some great solo work, but he will always be remembered for his many years playing for the greatest heavy metal band - Black Sabbath.
Black Sabbath - "Fairies Wear Boots" (Paris 1970)
Black Sabbath - "Children Of The Grave" (Reunion Rel: 1998)
Will there be more Heaven And Hell in 2008? Recent reports from BLABBERMOUTH.NETand Artisan News Service(Vinny Appice 3 part Interview) say yes, it looks that way. The band, which includes Black Sabbath'sguitarist Tony Iommiand bassist Geezer Butler, along with former Sabbath drummer Vinny Appiceand former lead singer Ronnie James Diotoured last year and released a live CD and DVD "Live At Radio City Music Hall" at the end of 2007. The latest word is that they are working on new material, with hopes of getting a studio CD out in 2008.
The band name Heaven And Hell comes from the first album they did together as Black Sabbath in 1980. They did a few albums and tours together in an on again off again relationship from 1980 - 1982 and 1991-1992. If they manage to release a studio CD album of new material this year, it will be the first time in over 15 years.
.
Personally, I much prefer the original Black Sabbath lineup formed in the late 1960's with Ozzy Osbourneon lead vocals and Bill Wardon drums. They've had many member changes from time to time, and I've liked them all. But, the first lineup, which stayed in tact until 1979 was definitely best. I was lucky enough to see most of the different versions of the band live, including the "Reunion" tour with Ozzy and Bill when they were in Columbia, MD at Merriweather Post PavilionAugust 14, 1999.
.
I look forward to the new release later this year. Don't expect Heaven And Hell to tour in 2008 like some are saying. It's more likely to happen in early 2009. The rumor that Judas Priest will tour with them seems unlikely, as they start a world tour soon. Whenever it happens, I'd like to make it to this reunion tour as well.
