2010 WRC Rally Jordan Review

Co-driver Daniel Elena and Sébastien Loeb celebrate 2010 Rally Jordan win.
All photos in this post are from WRC.com .

The 2010 Rally Jordan, based at Dead Sea Centre in Jordan, took place at the end of last week (Preview). I wanted to share a taste of that great event with you, so I've gathered some post rally articles and daily podcasts from WRC.com as a review for those fans wanting to catch up with the details and reactions from the rally.

This was the third event in the 2010 World Rally Championship Season. The snippets below, along with their title links, are all about the main WRC competition and it's participants. Links to some of the articles on related competitions (JWRC, PWRC, SWRC or S2000) and posts not specifically about this rally may be found in Junior's regular 'Reading And Viewing List' entries.

I usually break down the reviews into a post per event day, with videos for each day. Unfortunately, I just don't currently have the time for such an undertaking. My personal life, computer and internet connection problems, as well as a strong desire to bring you posts on other things, forced me into making the tough decision to consolidate and economize on this particular occasion. Please enjoy the long list of articles and podcasts below.

Posted at WRC.com on April 1, 2010

Just 0.4 seconds separate Jari-Matti Latvala and Dani Sordo at the top of the leaderboard of the Jordan Rally following the opening loop of four stages.

Ford Focus driver Latvala had built a 4.3-second advantage after setting the fastest time on the first two stages. SS14: Citroen and Ford shake up the order
Posted at WRC.com on April 3, 2010

Saturday's final day of the Jordan Rally got off to a tactical start, with the factory Citroen and Ford teams both orchestrating a series of deliberate penalties to give their lead drivers the best chance of victory.

The tactical manoeuvring actually started on Friday, when Sebastien Ogier had intended to drop behind Jari-Matti Latvala in an effort to cancel out any advantage the Ford driver might gain by running further down the order on Saturday...

First WRC points for Raikkonen
Posted at WRC.com on April 4, 2010

Former Formula One champion Kimi Raikkonen says he achieved all he set out to in the Jordan Rally, and believes the experience gained will stand him in good stead on the next round in Turkey.

Raikkonen’s debut WRC season with the Citroen Junior Team got off to a shaky start in Sweden when he drove into a snow bank, and got worse on the next round in Mexico when he rolled his C4 WRC off the road. But in Jordan, only his eighth-ever rally, a largely mistake-free performance netted him a top ten result.

Eighth place was Raikkonen’ best finish in the World Rally Championship, and secured him his first drivers’ championship points...

The wrc.com rally review: Jordan
Posted at WRC.com on April 6, 2010

One of the specialities of Jordan is mint tea, usually drunk in a tiny receptacle. These diminutive tea cups are about exactly the right size to contain a very small storm - which is exactly what the saga concerning team orders (or not) on the Jordan Rally is all about.

Sebastien Loeb felt that they overshadowed the 56th win of his glittering career, and he may have had a point. "We speak too much about the tactics," said Loeb. "I know that they are part of the game but they are becoming too important and that is not right."

But they're only important because people chose to make them so. Tactics in motorsport are nothing new, and in the past team mates have sacrificed not only their race but also their cars for the greater good...
