The Rumor Mills are really rolling today. Some have reported that Alex Ovechkin may have agreed to a long term deal with the Washington Capitals for big money. At least one site has almost hidden their earlier headline story. I'm referring to a TSN.ca post that now says according to a close source a deal is close, but not completed. They say that RDS.ca reported Ovechkin agreed to a 6 year deal totaling $54 million. I myself will believe it when I see it on WashingtonCaps.com.
.
Update: Tarik El-Bashir at washingtonpost.com has reported that an agreement has been finalized, but the rumored terms were of course not accurate. Tarik, who spoke to Washington Capitals majority owner Ted Leonsis, says he will have the details up soon.
.
Update: An article stating that the deal is complete has now been posted to the Caps' web site. According to this article, the details will be announced around 8:30 PM tonight. The official announcement will be made at a press conference to be held near the press room on the Event Level at Verizon Center. This will be right after the Meet The Team Party, an event held tonight for season ticket holders.
