2012 WRC Rally New Zealand Review

The 2012 World Rally Championship Season passed the halfway mark during Rally New Zealand, which happened June 22 through June 24, 2012 (Qualifying on June 21st). Based in Auckland, NZ, the mostly gravel (with some asphalt portions) event, was this year's seventh round.

The three top finishers were: Sébastien Loeb (France) of Citroën Total World Rally Team - first, Mikko Hirvonen (Finland) of Citroën Total World Rally Team in second, and Petter Solberg (Norway) with factory Ford World Rally Team - third.

...So it wasn’t so much that Loeb was untouchably quick in New Zealand: far from it as Hirvonen was able to keep pace with him and had Petter Solberg not been on hard tyres for Friday’s soft stages, dropping a minute a half, he would have been right with Loeb at the finish too. Not to mention an on-form Latvala, who is probably faster than all three of them in terms of raw speed...

2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix Review

Race seven of the 2012 Formula One Season, the 2012 Canadian Grand Prix, happened on June 10, 2012 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

At this point on the race calendar, we were still taking turns getting to the finish line first. It was Lewis Hamilton's (England) turn to win a 2012 Formula One Grand Prix race, in his McLaren - Mercedes. Romain Grosjean (Switzerland born / France nationality) of Lotus - Renault was second, while Sauber - Ferrari driver Sergio Pérez (México) was the third place finisher.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton became Formula One racing’s magnificent seventh winner at the seventh round of the 2012 season, after a gripping Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday

Hamilton was involved in a heady three-way fight with polesitter and early leader Sebastian Vettel, and points’ leader Fernando Alonso. Vettel led for the first 16 laps for Red Bull, but after pulling away initially, rapid tyre degradation forced him into the pits at the end of the 16th lap...

2012 F1 Monaco Grand Prix Review

On May 27, 2012, the 2012 F1 Monaco Grand Prix was run at the Circuit de Monaco in the streets of the harbor area of Monte Carlo and La Condamine. It was race number six of 2012 Formula One.

It was also the sixth straight race with a different winner, creating a new record of consecutive different winners to start a season. Winning Monaco this year, was Australian Mark Webber, driving for the Red Bull - Renault team. German driver Nico Rosberg came in second for Mercedes AMG Petronas. Third place went to Spain's Scuderia Ferrari driver, and new points leader, Fernando Alonso.

2012 NHL Free Agency Links


Today's (July 1, 2012) the day, at 12:00 PM EDT, NHL Free Agency commences. It's the day where uncommitted players start to seek out a new home, with a new contract for the big bucks (hopefully), and teams try to acquire the guys they think will make their team better.

2012 WRC Rally Greece Review

The Loutraki area of Corinthia, Greece was home base for 2012 WRC Rally Greece, round six of the 2012 World Rally Championship. The gravel surfaced event was held (Qualifying and Rally) from May 24 through May 27, 2012.

French Citroën Total World Rally Team driver Sébastien Loeb claimed his fourth win of the season at this rally. Finnish teammate Mikko Hirvonen was second quickest, while his countryman Ford World Rally Team driver Jari-Matti Latvala was third.

2012 F1 Spanish Grand Prix Review

The 2012 F1 Spanish Grand Prix was run on May 13, 2012 at the Circuit de Catalunya in Montmeló, near Barcelona, Spain. It was the fifth race of the 2012 season of Formula One racing.

The fifth different driver was victorious, making this a very interesting season, so far. It was Pastor Maldonado, the first Venezuelan ever to win a Formula One Grand Prix race, in his Williams - Renault car claiming first place. In second was Spaniard Fernando Alonso of Scuderia Ferrari, followed by Finnish Lotus - Renault driver Kimi Räikkönen in third.

Race - magnificent Maldonado puts Williams back on top

Pastor Maldonado was the hero of Barcelona on Sunday afternoon. The Venezuelan's speed in his Williams FW34 came out of left field on Saturday, and in the race he became the fifth different winner this season and the seventh in seven races when he steered it to the British team's first victory since Brazil 2004...
