The following items caught my eye over the first couple days of this month. I thought I'd share them with you. Here's the 'Reading And Viewing List' for April 1 through April 2, 2010.

Chris Clark: 'It's been a different year'
By Tarik El-Bashir at Capitals Insider

Since being traded to the Blue Jackets on Dec. 28, Chris Clark has been looking forward to Saturday's game. Unfortunately for him, the only contact he'll make with Alex Ovechkin and Co. is when they shake hands outside the dressing rooms at Nationwide Arena.

That's because Clark suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee earlier this week and he'll be sidelined for the remainder of the season. The injury was the latest blow in a difficult year for the former Caps captain, who told me moments ago that he was stunned by the trade but has moved on....
*Dan, Jr. / Junior's Eyes Note: I'm still mad about Chris Clark being traded!

'Doctor Who' Showrunner On The Season Premiere,
Weeping Angels, And Why Old Doctors Are Dangerous

By Rick Marshall at MTV's Splash Page

The new season of "Doctor Who" kicks off this weekend across the pond, but if you're anything like me, you'll find a way to be watching when the series' new duo debuts on both BBC One this Saturday and BBC America two weeks later.

While "Doctor Who" has a long history in comics, it also occupies the top spot in my personal hierarchy of geekery (yes, even above comics) — which is why I jumped at the chance to interview the series' award-winning lead writer and new showrunner, Steven Moffat, ahead of this weekend's UK premiere. Longtime readers will recall I spoke to former "Doctor Who" star David Tennant during last year's Comic-Con International about his final season as the time-and-space-traveling Timelord,...

You Make the Call
By The Peerless at The Peerless Prognosticator

The NHL is allegedly cracking down (again) on head shots. Well, does this action by the Atlanta Thrashers' Colby Armstrong qualify?...

About Last Night: A Young Gun Takes Head-Hunting Punishment, Refs Hardly Care
By The OFB Team at On Frozen Blog

Aesthetically, it wasn’t pretty last night, and Atlanta played a playoff-style road game — meaning, they were more than content to keep it choppy and ugly — but the Capitals remained patient, received solid if unspectacular netminding from Semyon Varlamov, and eventually wore the Thrashers down enough to get them to succumb. It seemed perfectly scripted that Matt Bradley would provide the game-winner in such a slogging. But for us, there was one standout moment from last night, and it was uglier than the hockey itself:

If that isn’t targeting the head, what is?...

Who "Really Wants It" in the Easten Conference, Anyway?
By Usually Frustrated Caps Fan at Mark's Musings

Last night three of the five Eastern Conference "bubble teams" (Philadelphia, Montreal, Boston, Atlanta and the Rangers) were in action - all three (Philadelphia, Boston, and Atlanta) lost. On Wednesday evening the Canadiens lost to Carolina. On Tuesday evening all three Eastern Conference"bubble teams" in action (the Rangers, Boston and Atlanta) won, but over the last two weeks that's (bubble teams winning) been the exception not the rule...

Postgame Notebook: Capitals 2, Thrashers 1
By Mike Vogel - Senior Writer at WashingtonCaps.com

Tighten Up – It was a 2-1 game, with a total of 44 shots on goal. It looked more like something the Devils and the Bruins would cook up than a game featuring two of the league’s top eight offensive teams, a game that also happened to feature two teams whose goals against averages reside in the bottom half of the league ledger...

By Josh Wigler at MTV's Splash Page

Kenneth Branagh & Anthony Hopkins Deny 'Thor' Troubles
By Josh Wigler at MTV's Splash Page

Reports of conflict between certain key cast and crew members on the set of "Thor" are completely false, according to both Kenneth Branagh and Anthony Hopkins.

In an interview with Hero Complex, Branagh addressed the widely circulated rumors that Hopkins — who plays Odin in the film — has had trouble working with both the director and leading man Chris Hemsworth...

Pre-Postseason Roundtable
Posted by David M. Getz at Japers' Rink

[Ed. note: The season's not quite done, and the Capitals still have six games left on their schedule before the postseason gets under way, but the reality is that right now most fans - and most of the players - are eagerly anticipating the second season. Naturally, that includes the Japers' Rink contributors, who sat down to discuss Washington's lackluster play of late, the trade deadline, and how they feel about the team heading in to the postseason.]...

Not only is Rosberg currently 11 points ahead of Schumacher in the championship standings, but he’s enjoying having such an experienced team mate on his side...

A Rough March for the Capitals' Defense
By J.P. at Japers' Rink

As you may have noticed, the Capitals haven't been quite the same juggernaut since the Olympics that the were prior to the mid-February break. They've won eight of 14 games, have allowed 2.85 goals against per game and have successfully killed off just 73.5% of their shorthanded opportunities.

To be certain, there's plenty of blame to go around, from the coaching staff on down. But when things go bad for this Caps team, eyes tend to turn to one of two places: the defense or the goaltending...

Still In Search Of Win #50.....
By Usually Frustrated Caps Fan at Mark's Musings

Well as we all know Tuesday evening's outing between the Capitals and the Senators resulted in.... gasp ... the Capitals third loss in a row and a "one point night." To be sure Tuesday evening was a far better outing by the Capitals then Sunday's game against Calgary. The Capitals effort versus the Senators, a team who as Gabby pointed out, was a better effort and more inspired effort than the prior two games. However, it wasn't...

By gbarton at Classic Rock

AC/DC have revealed plans for a spectacular performance at this summer’s Download Festival – but, contrary to rumour, it won’t include the band playing their legendary Back In Black album in its entirety.

Instead, to tie in with their involvement in the soon-to-be-released movie Iron Man 2, AC/DC are promising the Download crowd a mix of “super-charged boogie and super-heroic stunts,” according to band spokesman Don Heck...

Eric Boullier Q&A: Renault targeting top three return
Posted on Formula1.com

Just two races into the season and Renault are already back on the podium - not bad going for new team principal Eric Boullier. And thanks to Robert Kubica’s second place in Australia last weekend, the French team now lie fourth in the constructors’ standings. Boullier, however, is determined they won’t sit on their laurels just yet, and is instead aggressively targeting third place in the championship table, as he explains to Formula1.com...

Washington closes out a three-game homestand and attempts to halt a three-game losing streak (0-1-2) on Thursday night when the Atlanta Thrashers visit Verizon Center. The Capitals have four home games remaining this season, two against Atlanta and two against Boston. The Thrashers will return to the District next Friday, April 9.Thursday marks the Capitals’ fourth attempt at nailing down the team’s 50th win of the season.
