American music icon, singer and actor Elvis Presley passed away on August 16, 1977, from a drug overdose. His popularity had been declining along with his health. Presley became the butt of a lot of jokes, due to his ever expanding waistline.

It seems amazing to most people that someone who has had so much success, fame and fortune could treat themselves so badly, but many of the greatest entertainers have. There is tremendous pressure to keep producing endlessly and consistently. Some find it too much to handle, and they become self destructive. Drugs are their way to escape from the pains of the real world.

When I was a young child, I watched Presley's movies. Members of my family were among the millions of Elvis music fans. Since I'm not a huge fan, and don't believe he sang any drug related songs, I'll turn to a band who have put out a few. The song is "Hand Of Doom" by England's heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath. As with their others, this song points out what a terrible and sometimes deadly path drug use can be.
